Go Vote, Baby!

Go Vote, Baby! takes little readers through a series of familiar everyday scenarios (e.g. “What do you want to play with?,” “How do you want to be tucked in?”). For each scenario, the book presents the question along with an illustration of a smorgasbord of possible alternatives on the left-hand page, and then encourages them to choose which of two options they prefer by sliding a green check mark piece on the right-hand page (twice). While it does introduce the littlest hands to the broad idea of voting (choosing between two options), with its red, white, and blue, star bedazzled cover and title Go Vote, Baby!, one might assume that the book would address actual voting at some point . . . but such readers will be disappointed. While the parallels between making everyday minor choices and voting are addressed, the differences never are, making this perhaps more suited to remind parents to offer choices to children in encouraging independence than it is to rally the next generation of civic-minded voters. The illustrations are cute, but not particularly noteworthy.
