Stories behind the story

Where did you originally get the idea for Play?

The idea came after a little guy with a stuffed puffin appeared in my sketch book and basically asked me to write a story about him. After a few attempts I gave him a friend called Frida and together they helped me writing a story about how they learn to become friends.

Are there any details of Play? that you particularly love that readers should watch for?

Yes, how Puff and Fox, Phil and Frida's stuffed animals communicate and show emotions through out the book - and become friends!

Did you have a specific audience in mind when you created Play?

The youngest audience. The story is told with very few words, some spreads are wordless and the story is mostly told through pictures. It is about this transition where children learn playing with other children and discover friendships - which is not always painless, ha!
