Read Girl, Stolen before Count All Her Bones. The sequel takes place after Cheyenne's kidnapping and assumes readers know her history with Griffin and the people who held her captive.

Both books are high-tension kidnapping thrillers. They include captivity, threats of murder, guns, physical attacks, serious injury, pneumonia, and repeated attempts to escape or silence witnesses. The suspense is sustained and better suited to teens comfortable with realistic peril.

Cheyenne's blindness is central to how she navigates danger, but she is resourceful rather than helpless. The books also complicate easy labels of victim and criminal, especially through Griffin's role in the kidnapping and his efforts to make different choices.
