Daughter of the Lioness Books

Read Trickster's Choice first and Trickster's Queen second. Tamora Pierce's official site numbers them Books One and Two in the Tricksters series, while Bookroo retains the familiar Daughter of the Lioness catalog title.

The duology belongs to the wider Tortall universe, but Aly's two-part story can be read on its own. Readers who already know the Song of the Lioness books will recognize her family and gain extra context.

Aly is captured by pirates and sold into slavery before becoming involved in espionage and resistance to colonial rule. The books include prejudice, threats, political violence, deaths, warfare, dangerous magic, and the constant risk of discovery.

Aly's strategic work, the perspectives of the Copper Isles' oppressed people, and the ethical costs of rebellion make the duology more politically complex than a straightforward adventure. Romance is present but secondary to spying and revolution.
