Read the three graphic novels in publication order: Sanity & Tallulah, Field Trip, then Shortcuts. Each adventure has its own central problem, but the space-station community, friendships, family relationships, and consequences continue across the trilogy.
Start with the first book for the best introduction to Sanity's experiments, Tallulah's boldness, and life aboard Wilnick SS. There are no separate companion volumes to place between the three books.

The adventures include an illegal science experiment escaping, station damage, explosions, separation from adults, a murderous pirate, a planet in danger, a military blockade, and the possibility of war. The girls are often in real peril, although teamwork and clever engineering keep the tone adventurous rather than grim.
Sanity and Tallulah are capable, imperfect friends who sometimes create their own problems and then take responsibility for solving them. The series gives science, math, navigation, and practical problem-solving important roles without reading like a textbook.
