Elephant and Piggie Books

The 25 original adventures stand alone, so children can choose a title that matches the feeling or situation that interests them. Publication order—from Today I Will Fly! to The Thank You Book—still gives families a simple complete path and lets recurring jokes accumulate naturally.

Elephant & Piggie Like Reading! is a different line. Gerald and Piggie introduce early-reader stories created by guest authors and illustrators, but those books feature other main characters rather than extending the original 25-book sequence.

Biggie volumes and the Complete Collection repackage several original stories together. They are buying options, not additional adventures, and are not counted on this page.

The conflicts are everyday and gentle: hurt feelings, impatience, jealousy, misunderstandings, fear of separation, sharing, and learning how to include a new friend. Characters may shout, cry, sneeze dramatically, or imagine minor mishaps, but there is no sustained peril.

These are early readers rather than graphic novels. Repeated phrases, large type, speech bubbles, uncluttered pages, and expressive pictures support children who are beginning to read dialogue independently and make the books especially effective for reading aloud with two voices.
