The A Dog's Purpose Puppy Tales are shorter adaptations and related stories written for younger readers. They are a separate branch, not extra installments between these three adult novels.

Despite the warm premise and movie tie-ins, these are adult novels rather than the younger-reader Puppy Tales. Bailey repeatedly dies and is reborn, so animal death, euthanasia, grief, aging, and separation are central to the story.
