How to Read The Princess Diaries

Read the twelve numbered volumes in order. Books 1–10 follow Mia through high school; Royal Wedding and The Quarantine Princess Diaries revisit her as an adult and are best read after Forever Princess.

Several short books are labeled with half-volume numbers, including Project Princess and The Princess Present. They are optional side stories that fit near their numbered place but are not required to follow the main plot. The 2026 graphic novel adapts the first book rather than continuing Mia's story.

For parents

What Parents Should Know

Mia's candid diaries discuss crushes, dating, kissing, body image, popularity, bullying, family conflict, and anxiety. As the teen series progresses, there are increasingly direct conversations about sex, contraception, pregnancy, and alcohol, though the tone remains comic and the detail is generally limited. Royal Wedding and The Quarantine Princess Diaries feature Mia as an adult and include more adult relationships, language, and concerns than the early books.
