Storytelling Math Books

Grace Lin is the author and illustrator of more than twenty books for children, including the Newbery Honor Book Where the Mountain Meets the Moon (Little, Brown), the Geisel Honor Book Ling and Ting: Not Exactly the Same! (Little, Brown), and The Ugly Vegetables. She is also the co-author and illustrator of Our Seasons. She lives in Florence, Massachusetts.

I’m the author of six picture books: OTTO’S RAINY DAY (Charlebridge Publishing 2000); CIXI, THE DRAGON EMPRESS (Goosebottom Books, 2011); SACAJAWEA OF THE SHOSHONE (Goosebottom Books, 2012), GOLDY LUCK AND THE THREE PANDAS (Charlesbridge Publishing, 2014); THE ROCK MAIDEN (Wisdom Tales Press, 2017.); and MULAN’S LUNAR NEW YEAR (Disney Worldwide Publishing, 2018). GOLDY LUCK AND THE THREE PANDAS was a Junior Library Guild and a Scholastic Book Club selection, and was nominated for the 2017 Illinois Monarch Reader’s Choice Award. My nonfiction articles have been published in the children’s magazines “Highlights for Children”, “Faces”, “Appleseeds”, and “Muse”. “The Elephant Queen” which appeared in the February issue of Faces, received a Letter of Merit in the 2013 SCBWI Magazine Merit Awards. My math concept picture book, YUM YUM, DIM SUM! has just been acquired by Charlesbridge Publishing, and I’m currently working on my first middle grade novel. When I’m not writing, I love to travel, hang out with my family, binge on Netflix shows, and play with my dog, Juneau.

Ana Crespo is originally from Brazil. Before becoming a children’s book author, Ana worked as an academic advisor and as a translator. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s in education. Ana lives in Colorado with her husband, two kids, and a variety of wildlife.

Marta Álvarez is an author and children´s book illustrator living in A Coruña, Spain. She graduated in Psychology from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2001, however her real passion was always drawing doodles in the margins of the notebooks. Marta debuts in 2002 writing and illustrating her first picture book “¡Cómo está o galiñeiro!” published by Xerais. Since then, she has worked for several Spanish and international publishing houses. In 2007 her artwork was selected and exhibited at the Bratislava Biennial of Illustration (BIB). She illustrated “Shark Lady: The True Story of How Eugenie Clark Became the Ocean´s Most Fearless Scientist”, which was named one of the Best Children´s Books of 2017 by Parents Magazine, and won the Blue Spruce Award in 2018. She also painted the funny and charming illustrations of “What is Poo?”, which won the Silver Award at the Junior Design Awards 2017. Marta Álvarez is a member of the Galician Illustrators Association (AGPI).

Violet (Jung Ah) Kim received a BFA degree in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design and is the illustrator of Earth Day, Birthday! (Two Lions) and The Little Gray Bunny (Charlesbridge). She lives in Seoul, South Korea.

Teresa Martinez was born in Mexico. She was a very shy girl at school, and drawing helped her connect with other children. When she grew up she studied graphic design and started illustrating picture books. Now she lives in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, drawing for kids as she did during her school days, and that makes her happy. Her books include The Little Girl with the Big Voice and The Halloween Tree.
