A super-readable and accessible heartwarming middle grade contemporary story with themes of grief, community, and the environment. To begin again, you first have to embrace the past. Cari wishes that she could rewind time. She wants nothing to do with her and her mom’s new life in the valley, especially after a devastating storm causes the nearby river to flood their house. As she and her mom rebuild, Cari learns about a plan to reintroduce beavers to the local ecosystem. She immediately gets involved: these previously extinct animals naturally transform waterways in ways that can prevent future flooding. But change is scary, and not everyone in the community is on board. Can Cari convince them to give the beavers a chance in time to save her home from being destroyed a second time?
Gill Lewis lives with her husband, three young children, and a motley crew of various pets in Somerset. A childhood fascination with anything that crawled, swam, or flew led to a career as a vet. Gill began to write and illustrate stories for her own children, inspired by traditional folk-tales and ancient mythologies.
