What Does Bookroo Think of This Book

Highlighted historical dreamers instill a succinct message of helping others.

Consistent with other primers in the This Little book series, This Little Dreamer introduces ten historical figures, each with a four-lined poem, a sentence more of biographical information, and an illuminating illustration of the dreamer. The last page of the book contains seventeen additional dreamers that are highlighted, with a portrait illustration and an introductory sentence for each, along with one empty portrait frame with the title “YOU!” for a reader to imagine themselves, and prompting further discussion of hopes, dreams, and interests long after the book is closed. The flowing rhymes included about the main spotlights pair nicely with the additional sentences highlighting achievements, making this board book more substantive and educational than most board books with its short, attention grabbing snippets of inspiring information. Simplified illustrations capture the essence of the highlighted individuals while remaining playful, bright, and engaging. Consistent with the examples of historical dreamers included in this board book are the few lines of extra text introducing and closing the book that promote positive messages relating to hope, kindness, and sharing. With a feeling of a simplified, baby encyclopedia, this dreamer primer ends by instilling the uplifting and honorable notion that “little dreamers make our big world better.”
