Brooke Boynton Hughes
I grew up in Loveland, Colorado where I spent my childhood days drawing cats, mermaids and treehouses. When not drawing I could be found making shoe box dioramas, building snow forts with my brother, or watching the Muppet Show.
I've illustrated several books for kids including BABY LOVE by Angela DiTerlizzi, HENRY WANTS MORE! by Linda Ashman, and the CUPCAKE COUSINS series by Kate Hannigan. My first book as author/illustrator, BRAVE MOLLY, will be released by Chronicle in the spring of 2019.
As a kid some of my favorite books were THE LITTLE MOON THEATER by Irene Haas, COME FOLLOW ME by Gyo Fujikawa, THE CLOWN OF GOD by Tomie DePaola, and WHERE'S WALLACE by Hilary Knight.
These days some of my favorites are THE FARMER AND THE CLOWN by Marla Frazee, ALL THE WORLD by Liz Garton Scanlon and illustrated by Marla Frazee, JANE THE FOX AND ME by Fanny Britt and illustrated by Isabelle Arsenault, and TOOT & PUDDLE by Holly Hobbie.
I head to the movies. I LOVE going to the movies by myself! I get a small popcorn or some junior mints and I sit alone in the dark and if the movie isn't any good I let my mind wander and think of story ideas.
Or I head to a museum or spend time outside. I go for a walk or read a good book. I hang out in a coffee shop and doodle. I look at the work of illustrators and artists whose work I love. But mostly, I go to the movies.
