Bookroo's summary

Torchy the firefly's light is so bright it disrupts the forest's night harmony, angering the animals. Feeling out of place, he embarks on a journey to find where his unique glow is appreciated. Along the way, Torchy discovers the beauty of different lights and learns the true value of his individuality. Will he find a home that embraces his brilliance, or is he destined to wander alone? Join Torchy on his illuminating adventure and uncover the magic of being different in a world that thrives on conformity.

From the publisher

Early each night the fireflies come out to dance. They twinkle and glow and flash secret messages to each other. Together they make a thousand chandeliers. All except Torchy. When he turns on his light it suddenly becomes as bright as day. Thinking that it’s morning, baby birds cry out to be fed and earthworms scramble for cover. Torchy’s bright light ruins the fireflies’ fun and all the forest animals are angry with him for disturbing their sleep. Torchy goes off to be alone and, in the course of his adventures, discovers that there are all kinds of lights in the world. First published in 1970, A Firefly Named Torchy continues to entertain. Bernard Waber uses light and dark and shimmering colors to create a stunning picture book that truly conveys the motion and sparkle of the firefly world. This much loved creator of children’s books takes us on a timeless journey with Torchy as he learns the value of individuality
