How to Read the Squish Books

Read the eight numbered graphic novels in publication order, beginning with Super Amoeba and ending with Pod vs. Pod. Each volume tells a complete school or friendship story, while the same friends, bullies, and comic-book hero return throughout.

A reader can enjoy an individual adventure without much setup, but Book 1 provides the clearest introduction to Squish, Peggy, Pod, and the Super Amoeba comics that shape how Squish sees his problems.

For parents

What Parents Should Know

The books use lots of slime, microbes, parasites, illness jokes, and other mild gross-out humor. Stories also address bullying, fear, jealousy, video-game overuse, friendship conflict, and a pretend 'deadly disease,' all through exaggerated cartoon comedy.

Short chapters and comics-within-the-comic make the series accessible, while the science vocabulary is playful rather than instructional. Squish often learns to be brave without copying the aggressive shortcuts of his favorite superhero.
