How to Read Throne of Glass in Order

Begin with Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight, then read the prequel collection The Assassin's Blade before Heir of Fire. Continue through Queen of Shadows, Empire of Storms, Tower of Dawn, and Kingdom of Ash.

The Assassin's Blade was published after the first two novels and supplies history that becomes increasingly important from Heir of Fire onward. Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn overlap in time, but first-time readers can follow publication order rather than attempting a chapter-by-chapter tandem read.

For parents

What Parents Should Know

This is mature young-adult fantasy, not a middle-grade series. It includes sustained battle violence, torture, enslavement, abuse, murder, executions, possession, war, major character deaths, grief, and trauma.

Romance and sexual content become more prominent in the later books, including on-page sex scenes. Language and drinking also increase. The series can be rewarding for older teens who enjoy long, emotionally intense fantasy, but parents should not assume the relatively restrained opening book represents the entire arc.
