Cottage Door Press is an independent publisher of high-quality children’s books. We believe that every child deserves an excellent first book experience–beginning on the day they’re born. Reading is learning is our driving philosophy, and we strive to help parents understand why reading aloud from birth is so important. We offer a simple development-based guide to help them on their journey. Ginger Swift is a pen name for the creative team at Cottage Door Press. We use a name like this when we work together on a story. We choose a name that stands for “red bird,” which is our cheerful little mascot.
Steve Smallman has been illustrating children’s books for 20 years and started writing for children 10 years ago. He is the winner of the 2009 Sheffield Children’s Book award for his book Smelly Peter: The Great Pea Eater.
Nicola’s style is very character heavy, colourful and playful. She takes influence from old Disney concept art, mid-century modern style and nature. On her desk Nicola keeps a mechanical pencil, soft drawing pencils in Ink blue, Ivory black and Chocolate, a nib pen, Indian ink and stacks of cartridge paper. She sketches, scans her drawings into Photoshop where she colours and manipulates them using her Wacom tablet. (Bio via childrensillustrators.com/nslater/about)
