Read the main story in order: books #1–8, then Unlocked at #8.5, book #9 Stellarlune, and Unraveled at #9.5. The half numbers are deliberate placements in the ongoing story, not optional duplicate editions.
The two graphic novels are Part 1 and Part 2 of a full-color retelling of the first prose book. Read both parts to replace book #1 visually, then continue with prose book #2; Graphic Novel Part 2 is not an adaptation of prose book #2.

The series includes kidnapping, magical and medical experimentation, injuries, battles, grief, character deaths, and threats that grow more serious over time. The violence is middle-grade rather than graphic, but this is much more intense than a light school fantasy.
Friendship, belonging, identity, trust, and difficult moral choices carry across the long story. Later books assume substantial knowledge of earlier events, so this is not a forgiving series to read out of order.
