Reading order
How to Read the Warriors Books
For a first read, follow publication order by story arc: The Prophecies Begin, The New Prophecy, Power of Three, Omen of the Stars, Dawn of the Clans, A Vision of Shadows, The Broken Code, A Starless Clan, and Changing Skies. Each arc restarts its book numbering at #1, but the main story and its surprises carry forward from one arc to the next.
Dawn of the Clans takes place earliest in the story's history, but the publisher recommends beginning with Into the Wild rather than reading chronologically. Super Editions, novella collections, field guides, and original graphic stories add character history and side adventures; many are best saved until the relevant cats have appeared because their descriptions or plots can reveal later events.
The Graphic Novel Adaptations retell the prose novels rather than continue them. A child can start with The Prophecies Begin, Volume 1 as a visual alternative to the opening prose books, but does not need to read both formats to follow the same events.

What Parents Should Know
Warriors includes frequent fantasy battles between cats, along with injuries and character deaths. These moments are written for middle-grade readers rather than described in graphic detail, but the danger, grief, and loss can still feel intense—especially when a favorite character is involved.
The series also explores loyalty, leadership, belonging, prejudice, and difficult choices. Children who are especially sensitive to animal peril or death may appreciate a parent checking in as they read.

Choose the opening format your child is most likely to enjoy. The many companion books become easier to place after they know the first arc and its characters.
Loves graphic novels
Start with The Prophecies Begin, Volume 1. These full-color books retell the main prose story in a visual format rather than adding a separate sequel.
Ready for the next arc
After The Darkest Hour, continue with Midnight in The New Prophecy. The cast expands, but the story builds on what happened in the first six books.
Wants character backstories
Try the Super Editions after finishing at least the first arc. They are longer stories about individual cats, and the best placement varies by character.
