The Best Anger Books for Kids

By the Bookroo Editors
Updated July 29, 2026

Anger has excellent sound effects. It stomps, slams, roars, and occasionally sends a purple plastic purse skidding across a classroom. For a child, it can arrive faster than language: a broken crayon, a toy grabbed by a sibling, one more aisle at the grocery store, and suddenly the whole body is shouting. The best books about anger do two things at once. They take the feeling seriously, and they draw a firm line around what a person may do with it. Being furious is ordinary; hitting, wrecking, and hurting still have consequences.

Drawing from Bookroo’s collection of 127 children’s books about anger, our editors chose 15 that are useful without reading like lectures: classics that let the feeling run its course, funny read-alouds about losing a temper, practical books with something to try, and longer stories about repair and responsibility. Start with the fixed shortlist, then browse by age — sturdy first books for toddlers, picture books for the peak stomping years, and chapter books for readers whose anger has begun to outgrow a single bad afternoon.
