The beloved, bestselling Nancy Tillman returns with a picture book celebrating what makes every child special in their own way. Part of growing up is discovering—and embracing—what makes us unique. From different abilities to different personalities, we are all wonderfully made with our own bells and whistles.
This book celebrates each of unique talents, skills, and abilities. This book would be great for a new parent or a student heading into their first year of school.
The message is great: you are unique and wonderful. I love that, but I didn’t love the execution here. The illustrations are nice, but there’s this whole thing going on with animals that I wasn’t sure had a point. The rhyming text often felt forced and uncomfortable, and doesn’t flow aloud they way I’d like it to. All in all, it felt like this is not so much a book for kids as a book for adults to think is a great book for kids.
Nancy Tillman is the author and illustrator of the bestselling picture book On the Night You Were Born; its companion journal,The Wonder of You: A Book for Celebrating Baby’s First Year; The Spirit of Christmas; The Heaven of Animals; You and Me and the Wishing Tree; You’re All Kinds of Wonderful; I Knew You Could Do it; and the New YorkTimes bestsellers, Wherever You Are, My Love Will Find You; The Crown on Your Head; You’re Here for a Reason, and I’d Know You Anywhere, My Love. She also created the mischievous cat Tumford in Tumford the Terrible and Tumford’s Rude Noises, and illustrated It’s Time to Sleep, My Love by Eric Metaxas, as well as Let There Be Light by Desmond Tutu. Nancy’s mission in creating her books is to give parents words to say what they feel about their children.
