Ruth Stiles Gannett (1923–2024) was an American writer whose imaginative storytelling introduced generations of readers to the adventures of Elmer Elevator. She wrote My Father’s Dragon while still a college student, creating a clever and heartfelt tale that would go on to become a favorite early chapter book and receive a Newbery Honor. With playful problem-solving, gentle humor, and memorable characters, her stories have remained beloved by young readers for decades.
