Sometimes Ruby needs just one more minute of sleep, one more thingy for her hair, one more push on the swing, and one more scoop on her cone, (and one more, and one more, and one more . . .) until one more is just too much. Maybe it’s time for just one? If you know a someone like Ruby, Just One More will be just right!
Jennifer’s been painting since the day her dad bought her a professional painter’s box at the age of 10. She went on to enjoy her Philadelphia design firm for many years, but after having 3 kids and reading mountains of children’s books, she couldn’t resist making up stories and pictures for her own. Jennifer’s first picture book, Just One More, went on to become a Dolly Parton Imagination Library selection 3 years in a row. Her newest book is a second Ruby book, Just For Me, where Ruby realizes that having a friend is much more fun than having everything to herself. Other books include Claudia & Moth and How to Trick the Tooth Fairy.
How did you come up with the idea of Just One More?
Well, as an exhausted first time mom, I was blown away with my child’s energy and always pushing the limits. It was mostly innocent…like one more bike ride around the block, one more pitch of the ball, one more horsey ride…and I would muster up the energy but thinking, “holy moly.” But then came the times that teetered into overindulgence, like too many sprinkles or time watching the TV and I thought that there really needed to be a book to teach kids how to tow the line. When I am out selling this book, it is hilarious the amount of parents that say, “Oh, that’s my kid!!!”
This book was dedicated to my three kids, Pierce, Greta, and Mia.
“Brief oversized text and large oil paintings combine wonderfully to introduce readers to Ruby, a child who lives life LARGE.”
