Ladybug Books for Kids

The Best Ladybug Books for Kids

By the Bookroo Editors
Updated July 31, 2026

A ladybug is usually the first wild animal a child is allowed to hold. It lands on a knuckle, walks to the fingertip, opens a shell nobody expected to open, and leaves. Everything about the real insect rewards a closer look, too: the spots have nothing to do with its age, the larva looks like a tiny spiny alligator, a single one can eat thousands of aphids in a season, and come autumn they pile into leaf litter and window frames by the hundreds to wait out the cold.

Drawing from Bookroo’s collection of ladybug books, our editors chose twelve that cover both the beetle and the character: sturdy board books for a toddler who has just met one, spring read-alouds and hide-and-seek favorites for story time, clear nonfiction for a classroom bug unit, and a first reader and a graphic-novel knight for children reading on their own. Start with the shortlist, then browse the age shelves below for more counting books, garden stories, and ladybug chapter books.
