The Best Children’s Books About Sharing

By the Bookroo Editors
Updated July 27, 2026

Sharing sounds simple until the thing in question is the only red boot, the last ice cream, a beloved stuffed llama, or twelve cookies with another knock at the door. Then a small word has to carry several hard ideas at once: waiting, dividing fairly, letting somebody else touch what is yours, and noticing when another person has less. The best sharing books do not pretend children should enjoy every second of that. They let the wanting stay visible, make the arithmetic awkward, and show generosity as a choice with an actual cost.

Drawing from Bookroo’s collection of 478 books about sharing, our editors chose 15 stories that approach the subject from different angles: first turns with toys, food split into fair shares, a neighborhood fed from one pot, and gifts made when there is almost nothing to spare. Start with the fixed shortlist below, then browse by age for sturdy board books that give toddlers useful words and picture books whose dilemmas can keep a classroom talking well after the last page.
