Snowboarding Books for Kids

The Best Snowboarding Books for Kids

By the Bookroo Editors
Updated August 1, 2026

Day one of snowboarding is mostly sitting down. A kid straps into one binding, scoots to the magic carpet, and spends a couple of hours falling on their backside every time the wrong edge catches — heel edge, toe edge, heel edge, snow down the collar. Then somewhere in the second or third session the turns link up, the board stops fighting back, and the whole thing flips from humiliating to the best feeling they have ever had. That gap between the falling and the flying is why snowboarding books work: almost every good one is about a kid who is bad at something in public, on a mountain, in front of their friends, and decides to go back up the lift anyway.

Bookroo’s collection of snowboarding books is small and lopsided. It is heavy on chapter-book sports fiction — Capstone’s Jake Maddox line alone accounts for a big slice of it — thin on picture books, and down to a single board book, and the sport itself only joined the Winter Olympics in 1998, so there is no deep backlist of classics to draw on. Our editors read the whole shelf and picked fourteen that spread it out: the funniest graphic novel about learning to ride, the two Olympic biographies worth a fourth grader’s book report, the picture books that are genuinely fun to read aloud, the best of the series fiction for kids who want a race and a rival, and one survival novel for a teenager. Start with the shortlist below, then use the picture-book and chapter-book shelves to see the rest.
