"About" from the Simon and Schuster Summer 2018 Distributed Publishers Catalog
I’m pretty tenacious person if there’s something I really want to do. And I really wanted to be a traditionally published children’s book author. So I decided I was going to put in as much time as it took to do the work that was necessary to write at a professional level. I read. I studied. I wrote. I rewrote. And I rewrote again. I basically treated it like it was a part-time job in addition to my regular full-time job. And a big thing was that I didn’t take the rejections personally. I just looked at rejections as saying my manuscript wasn’t ready yet. But I knew one day it would be.
I am an avid reader. It’s my biggest hobby. I also love visiting bookstores and libraries. And, I’m a bit of a social media junkie. (You can find me on Twitter at @PatZMiller.)
I’m usually nervous when a new book comes out. By the time it’s released, I’ve spent so much time working on it that I can’t look at it objectively anymore. I have to remind myself that:
I’ve done the best I can.
It’s out of my hands.
Now it’s up to other people to decide if it works.
I’m much happier and relaxed when I sell a new book. Because then, the possibilities are endless.
