How to Read the Percy Jackson Books

Start with The Lightning Thief and follow the official numbering through Wrath of the Triple Goddess. Books #1–5 tell the original complete adventure, ending with The Last Olympian. Books #6–7 reunite Percy, Annabeth, and Grover for the newer Senior Year Adventures; a third senior-year book has been announced but is not yet published or included in the count.

For the fullest Camp Half-Blood continuity, read Percy Jackson books #1–5, then the five Heroes of Olympus books, then return for Percy Jackson books #6–7. The official timeline places the senior-year adventures after the events of Heroes of Olympus. A child who mainly wants Percy, Annabeth, and Grover can also continue directly to book #6; the publisher describes The Chalice of the Gods as approachable on its own.

The five Percy Jackson graphic novels retell books #1–5 in a visual format rather than continuing the story. Companion books contain short stories, mythology retellings, crossovers, or reference material and do not belong in the numbered sequence.

For parents

What Parents Should Know

Percy's adventures include frequent monster attacks, sword fights, kidnappings, injuries, war, sacrifice, and several meaningful character deaths. The danger becomes more intense as the original five-book story approaches its final battle, but it is presented for middle-grade readers rather than described graphically.

Percy has ADHD and dyslexia, and the books often recast those differences as strengths in his demigod life. Humor and friendship balance the danger, though children who are sensitive to death, family separation, or sustained fantasy peril may appreciate a parent checking in as they read.
