Read all 18 books in numbered publication order, beginning with On the Dog. The adventures form connected four-book trips, so starting at book one makes the inventions, shrinking mishaps, and cliff-hangers easiest to follow.
The stories mix real science facts with deliberately gross humor about germs, mold, mucus, garbage, insects, and being swallowed. Andrew and his friends are often tiny enough to be chased by predators or trapped in dangerous environments, but the suspense is brisk and non-graphic.
Later books add kidnapping, time travel, dinosaurs, the Ice Age, caves, and other survival situations. Each short adventure emphasizes curiosity, problem-solving, and cooperation.
