What happens when a student is in more than one class?
Reference · Updated
A student in two classes is still one student, with one reading record. Their reading, quizzes and ZPD show in every class they're in. Where the classes' settings differ, the strictest one wins, except Reading Notes, which is on if any class turns it on. A class that has never changed a setting counts with the default its Settings page shows.
This happens when the same student is imported into two classes from Clever or Google Classroom. Students you add by typing a name are always new students, even if the name matches a student in another class.
Which class's setting applies
| Setting | Where you set it | What the student gets |
|---|---|---|
| Recording Reading | Settings → Student Restrictions | The strictest. Admin controlled beats Quiz or admin certified, which beats No restrictions. |
| Books below the ZPD | Reading Levels & ZPD | The lowest percent. A class that has never set one counts as 0%. |
| Require the monitor password to take the book quiz | Reading Levels & ZPD | On, unless every class has unticked it. |
| Require Password | Settings → Book Quizzes | If any class has a monitor password (or a student password under Quiz Monitor Password), every quiz needs one. The password from any of the student's classes works. Where a class gave the student their own password, that one replaces the class password. |
| Minimum Score to Pass | Settings → Book Quizzes | The highest. A class that has never changed it counts as 60% for 5- and 10-question quizzes and 70% for 15 and 20. |
| Retake Wait Days | Settings → Book Quizzes | The longest. A class that has never changed it counts as 14 days. |
| Resume Quiz | Settings → Book Quizzes | On only if every class turns it on. |
| Reread Wait Days | Settings → Reading Restrictions | The longest. A class that has never changed it counts as 1 day. |
| Reading Notes | Settings → Reading Notes | On if any class turns it on, since it adds a choice rather than a limit. The question comes from the newest of those classes that set one. |
Archived and deleted classes don't count, and neither does a class whose trial or subscription has ended.
The ZPD is shared
A student has one ZPD, not one per class. The range with the latest start date applies, whichever class set it. You can see every range in the student's ZPD history, with the class that set it, but you can only edit or delete the ranges your own class set. See Reading levels and ZPD.
How points are shared
- Blue points (for your custom rewards): each class keeps its own balance. Reading adds the same points to every class the student is in, except archived classes. Spending points in one class's rewards doesn't touch the other class's balance.
- Purple points (for the Bookroo Rewards Shop): one balance, counted once.
- The weekly cap of 1,000 points is for the student, not per class.
What each teacher sees
- All of the student's reading, wherever it was recorded: the Reading Log, Activity Feed and stats in both classes show it in full.
- All of their quizzes and quiz requests. Either teacher can approve a request or admin certify a book.
